Brewster Madrid

Igniting Passions

Middle School at Brewster Madrid is a time of discovery and growth. Students learn to think independently, work together, and apply their learning in meaningful ways—developing curiosity, confidence, and a clear sense of purpose for the years ahead.

How to Apply

The Team Model

The Middle School teaching team meets regularly to discuss each student’s progress, strengths, and areas for growth. These collaborative meetings ensure that every student receives the support and challenge they need to thrive. In addition to the teaching team, each student is paired with a dedicated advisor who serves as a consistent point of contact for both the student and their family, providing personalized guidance and care throughout the school year.

Learning Expeditions

Our belief that learning happens everywhere comes to life through our robust Learning Expeditions program, which transforms the city into an extension of the classroom. Students regularly venture beyond school walls to engage directly with the world around them—visiting museums, cultural institutions, parks & green spaces, and community organizations. These thoughtfully designed excursions allow students to deepen their understanding of academic content, make meaningful connections to real-world issues, and see themselves as active participants in their communities. By grounding learning in authentic, place-based experiences, we inspire curiosity, agency, and a lasting sense of relevance in students’ educational journeys.

Win Block

At the heart of our middle school program is the belief that every student deserves time built into the day to focus on what they need most to grow. The WIN block, short for “What I Need,” is a dedicated period designed to provide personalized learning experiences that support both academic growth and enrichment.

During WIN, students are placed in one specific block for a 6–8 week rotation. Students may participate in a variety of experiences throughout the year based on their academic needs and interests, allowing them to dive deeper into topics, develop skills, and engage meaningfully in the content. WIN blocks are flexible and responsive to help each student grow. There are two main types of WIN blocks:

1. Learning Extension

These blocks are designed to challenge and inspire students beyond the core curriculum. They offer students a chance to explore interests, discover new passions, and grow as creators, performers, and thinkers.

Examples include:

  • Creative Writing
  • Book Club
  • STEAM Challenges
  • Art & Design Workshops
  • Chorus
  • Robotics

2. Learning Support

Students may be assigned to these blocks that target support in key academic areas based on performance data, teacher recommendations, or self-identified needs. The goal is to give students the right help at the right time to strengthen their understanding and build confidence. Examples include:

  • Math support
  • Reading comprehension
  • Writing support
  • EAL support
