In the Classroom: Science
As part of our Who We Are Unit of Inquiry, our Grade 5 students explored how our senses work by stepping into the role of young scientists. In our “Amazing Lab,” they tested how the body adapts when one sense is reduced, experimenting with flavor identification, texture comparison, and observation skills to understand the complexity and resilience of the human sensory system.
To connect their learning, students also studied the extraordinary perseverance of Helen Keller, exploring how determination, communication, and support help individuals overcome significant challenges.
Their inquiry continued with a visit to the Museo Tiflológico in Madrid, where they interacted with accessible exhibits, learned about tools used by people with visual impairments, and built deeper empathy and understanding of how the world is experienced through different senses
